Pedal Revolution — A Nonprofit Bike Shop

Pedal Revolution is one of only a handful of bicycle shops providing employment, job training, and hope to young people. With the training and guidance of expert mechanics, our youth “interns” put together many of our new bikes and build the majority of our refurbished bikes. They also get hands-on training in sales, customer service and administration.

All of the used bikes we sell come to us as donations; so if you have an old bike collecting dust in your garage, please bring it on by.

Rebuilding Lives

Pedal Revolution is one of three social purpose businesses owned and operated by Golden Gate Community, Inc. (GGCI). GGCI is a nonprofit that helps rebuild the lives of youth committed to breaking out of the cycle of poverty, addiction and homelessness through job training and supportive communities.

See www.ggci.org for more information about GGCI.

History

Pedal Revolution started out as a drop-in center for neighborhood youth – run by the nonprofit, Youth Industries. Meals were served at the warehouse next door and there were programs to teach job and life skills. Pedal Revolution grew out of the training that was offered at the warehouse and soon became a fully functional, real-life work environment in which youth could learn.

In early 2001, Pedal Revolution was transferred to Golden Gate Community, Inc (GGCI).

Pedal Revolution trains over 15 youth per year and maintains itself by selling new and refurbished bicycles, new and used parts, and professional repair services to any and all bicycles.

Internship Program

Pedal Revolution operates a comprehensive employment and job-training program for youth between the ages of 14 to 21. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about our internships for at-risk youth, please contact Ciara Wade at [email protected] or 415.920.9200 ext. 309
